I was blessed to grow up on a 14-acre hobby farm in the Adelaide Hills. Life was full of sheep, cows, chickens, ducks, rabbits, cats, a couple of loyal farm dogs, and the occasional goldfish or blue tongue lizard. Some of my favourite memories come from riding a Yamaha 175 AG bike through the hills, collecting orphaned lambs to take back to Mum who would dress them in baby cardigans, place them by the wood fire and nurse them back to health, often with a wee dram of whisky in their milk for good measure. It worked a treat.

Those early years in the country helped spark a quiet love for photography, using an old Pentax 35mm to capture whatever caught my eye which was mostly the farm animals or the stunning landscape. Eventually, life took me in other directions—firstly into music, and then into teaching.

In 2019, after walking through some tough seasons, I found myself drawn back to the camera. There was a desperate need within me to slow down and discover what’s truly important again. During this season of self-discovery, photography became the calming hobby I didn’t realise I’d been missing. Joining a local group - Inspire Me Photography, helped me reconnect with the craft, and the passion quickly grew from there. Today, I teach Photography to Year 10 students at Trinity College Gawler. It’s a privilege to pass on not just the skills and joy of the art, but also the quiet presence it can offer when the world becomes loud.
